I'm Alive. It's a Miracle! - Release Notes
I'd written a song called "Laying Low" where it was unclear whether the hero died or survived. I went to bed pondering the thorny problem of what song could follow it on my album. In the middle of that night, I solved the problem; I woke up with the first verses and chorus of this song running through my head. This wasn't long after reading Keith Richards autobiography "Life", so it must have subconsciously inspired me to write a song about the miracle of him surviving into his 70's. I had a blast writing the lyrics for the rest of the song. I have a note pad with 4 hilarious pages of them. The music took a little while to flesh out. Originally it only had a reggae guitar on the offbeat, but that evolved into Keith Richards like riffs. I then added the piano to the chorus and suddenly the song came alive! My wife had the idea of taking a photo of the skeleton at her art class for the artwork, and we thought it would be funny if it was smoking, had red eyes and hair like Keef's. That led to the idea of a making a cartoon animation for the video. It was great fun dreaming up the visual gags for the it. This is a song for any occasion. I think that it could give Monty Pythons "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" some competition at defiant funerals. It'd also be a great song for a 40th or 60th birthday party! So there you have it. All you need to do now is to listen to it, download it and tell all your friends about it. Easy really! |
